I took the first shot (the brown one) about a week after I received it from ORA through my LFS. I’ve kept the coral at the same height level in the tank from the beginning (about 15 inches from the light source), so changing the placement of the coral was a non-factor here. I do attribute its growth and color transformation to (in no particular order):
1. Strong random flow, achieved via set of Korallias attached to Seio Controller.
2. Weekly feedings of Cyclopeeze, Oyster Eggs, Reef Plus (trace elements) and Selcon, mixed together with mysis shrimp and phytoplankton for my other corals and fish).
3. Well established, thriving population of copepods, amphipods and other beneficial inverts.
4. Just a few fat fish = lots of poop for the corals to gobble up.
5. Consistent dosing of C-Balance and Reef Advantage Magnesium.
6. I only use natural sea water (quarantined in total darkness for several weeks and then UV filtered).
7. No irritating tank-mates (i.e. clown gobies, etc) and NO CRABS whatsoever…. from personal experience, they can’t be trusted.
7. Last but not least, switching my 14K Ushio bulb (which was great for growth) to my Radium 20K bulb. The short and long term effects on the coloration of all my corals has been outstanding.
